Dow's Port, 1985

Vintage Port (Dows Library stock)

"Drinking beautifully now at early optimal maturity, this has at least another few years of development in front of it and many years of drinking pleasure after that. Now it is nicely developed, well integrated, juicy and ripe with a nice balance between its power, weight, and texture; it is succulent but still elegant. Delicious. Really excellent." Vintage Port 2x75cl bottles- Includes double wooden Fonseca gift box as illustrated

SCORES & TASTING NOTES
Drinking wonderfully now, the 1985 Fonseca Vintage port is one of the stars of the '80's. A great gift comprising of two bottles for a special family and friends gathering. It has a lovely nose of maturing port, finely styled and just screaming quality. The palate carries a svelte texture, with a creamy, flattering character. There is purity, balance, a clean, bright quality and despite this lots of appealing grip. This has great impact, and yet is so welcoming and alluring. Excellent wine, and a great example of the vintage.

Fonseca Port, 1985

Vintage Port MAGNUM 1.5L

** Please note this is a rare magnum format **

Tasting note: Deep inky ruby with a broad red rim just turning to brick at the edge. Generous and seductive nose redolent of blackcurrant and cherry. Dense, luscious black fruit laced with dark chocolate, liquorice and roasted coffee. Exotic herbal and resiny scents emerge an hour after decanting. Later the fruit becomes more luscious and creamier, with rich raspberry jam flavours overlaying the dark fruity base. The full round palate is supported by thick well-integrated tannins and delivers an abundance of luscious chocolate and blackcurrant flavour which lingers into the long velvety finish.

Harveys Port , 1985

Harveys Vintage Port (Martinez)

This 1985 Vintage Port from Harveys represents the last bottling of port from this historic company. The contents are from Martinez Gassiot owned by Harveys at the time.

Deep red, but starting to mellow and with a slight lightening on the rim; 90% opaque. Not revealing much on the nose, some redcurrant and perhaps a touch of VA that adds a dose of concentrated perfume to the nose. Modest body, soft tannins balance the sweet raspberry fruit and there is a decent core of acidity. Chewy finish of nut skins and raspberry seeds with an interesting orange zest bitterness. Drinking nicely now.

Hooper's Port, 1985

Vintage Port

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Surprisingly opaque and purple, this port has a tightly knit but compact structure, fine depth of fruit, full body, yet seems to tail off in the finish. One of the more tannic and closed ports of this otherwise charming, precocious vintage. (1/1989)

Wine Spectator
Medium purple-ruby with fresh raspberry and chocolate aromas, full-bodied with plenty of raspberry flavors, silky medium tannins and a fresh finish. (12/1989)

Kopke Port, 1985

Colheita Port in Original Kopke box as illustrated

Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.

Review:
The 1985 has a topaz color with glints of fiery orange. The nose of vanilla and toasted almonds leads to buttery rich caramel flavors with hints of dried strawberries, finishing with soft Columbian coffee and pink grapefruit zest.

Colheita, or single harvest ports, are aged in the barrel.

Martinez Vintage Port, 1985

Vintage Port

*** 94/100 - Wine Spectator ***

Full in color with a richness and big depth of fruit. The tannins are softening, to be sure, but there is still lots of body and power that will allow it to improve for many years.
